Dr. Nesli Erdoğmuş, a faculty member at the Department of Computer Engineering, has been awarded a prestigious fellowship under the PRESTIJ Research Fellowship Program, jointly launched by the French Embassy in Turkey and its Service de Coopération et d’Action Culturelle (SCAC).
Her project, titled “Biometric Applications with Robust and Green Artificial INtelligence (BARGAIN)”, focuses on developing energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable machine learning models for biometric identification and synthetic biometric data generation. The research aims to reduce computational costs and carbon footprint while maintaining high levels of accuracy and security—contributing to both the Green and Digital Transitions prioritized in European and international research agendas.
As part of the fellowship, Dr. Erdoğmuş will visit INRIA (National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology) at Sophia-Antipolis, France, between June 23 and July 18, 2025, to collaborate with leading researchers in the field. This will further strengthen scientific collaboration between France and Turkey, laying the groundwork for large-scale research initiatives such as the Hubert Curien Bosphorus Program and Horizon Europe.
In recognition of her selection, Dr. Erdoğmuş was recently honored by the French Consul General in Istanbul, Ms. Nadia Fanton, the Consul General of France in Istanbul, who presented her with a commemorative gift at a special event organized by Institut Français de Turquie (IFT).
